Saga of a Drengr Skald: The Disputes of the Frozen North
War and chaos: The Viking Age awaits you...
This is a character-driven, grimdark action-adventure, slow-burn mythic thriller with psychological horror and Norse saga-inspired progression elements.
The story unfolds in the brutal world of the frozen north of a fictional Scandinavia, a realm that is at the edge between the humans and where gods walk among mortals. A world where fate is carved by blood and steel. The magic system is grounded and limited in divine pacts, ancestral memory, and the power of belief, where skalds shape the reality of their listeners through songs and warriors forge destiny through battle.
This story is told through the perspectives of a reincarnated misterious being, the struggles of fallen kings and those in power that fights to stay afloat, wandering skalds fighting to maintain the stories of those who perished due to war and the struggles of lacking esencial things to live. It hosts lots of rival jarls, shieldmaidens, while the gods supposedly hide in their sturdly thrones, the narrative weaves together many key actors like Vidar Rahaldson, Ragnar Sigurdson (Lothbrok), Floki Vilgerðarson. It contains ancient powers gifted through circumstances, and many antagonistic forces whose true nature is only revealed as the saga deepens. Every oath, betrayal, and battle echoes across time—and each thread will unravel slowly, like a long winter night.
It begins in the icy forests of winter, where a nameless newborn—once a man (supposedly) from another world—awakens into a life a free citizen in Hallogaland. But when his house is razed, a being brings him back to life, he wanders his life in servitude at times, but in his mind the journey of vengeance already begun. Shall glory and transformation follow his path, bid the wise one. Along the way, he meets a mysterious skald whose songs seem to resemble his past choices and struggles, and together they face a monstrous creature corrupted by forgotten gods. But is the skald truly his ally? Or is he a herald of something far older and darker?
Is the man’s rebirth a gift from the gods—or a curse from something deeper beneath the ice? Only steel will decide. Only history will remember.

Author’s note: This is my first ever long-form saga! I’ve poured my love of Norse mythology, progression fantasy, and grim storytelling into this work. It’s raw, unfiltered, and still being refined—so feedback is deeply appreciated. I’ll be posting new chapters daily, and I’m also exploring a visual adaptation with many ideas and perspectives
Thank you for reading!
