Author Biography

Jaakko Koivula pens fantasy adventures infused with sharp wit, twisted timelines, and spellbinding mayhem. His stories fuse moral dilemmas with magic, mystery, and the occasional absurdity, as he believes fantasy should challenge your heart and your humor. Jaakko loves to weave together not only timelines but plotlines—hence why his second book, The Mountain Ride, borrows a side character from his debut novel, The Grand Harvest.

A Master of Social Sciences major turned IT consultant, Jaakko lives in northern Finland, where the winters are long and the coffee is strong. As an avid reader, beyond fantasy, he’s also ventured into new weird and magical realism. If he’s not managing projects or hatching new plot twists, he’s probably singing baritone in a classical choir, dissecting a book on his Finnish blog Tavaus, or wrangling his two wonderful but rambunctious children.

Grand Harvest

4 chapters

Slow-burning tale of magic and the weight of history. And beer.

A harvest so great it’ll be the death of them.

Magic has never given the village elder Fregnite Freetrade anything except slavery and starvation. Summer heat brings back memories of hunger in the dark, even though the village has more wheat than they can eat. With animals dying, bandits circling and townspeople mysteriously weak, is it too much to ask for the world to leave him in peace?

At least wizard Ashley Emberweave thinks it is. She’s desperately searching for new runes to repair magic that has been shattered. Her quest takes her to a village that hates magic and distrust her because of foreign looks—a village now teetering on the edge of destruction.

Together, they might just be able to save the village and make peace with their past… if they don’t kill each other first.
