Author Biography

Sheri Chen 陳雪瑞 Void Quill Writer of gods, ghosts, and grief-shaped legends.

Sheri (known online as XueRui) is a genre-bending fantasy author who weaves rich emotional landscapes into mythic tales of divine ruin, reincarnation, and redemption. Her work blends Xianxia, Daoist philosophy, and original lore into stories that linger like the last line of a poem you can’t forget.

She writes from a porch full of wind chimes, watching birds, and the gentle burble of a koi pond fountain. There she lives with her family, numerous spirit-hungry plants, and her two dogs: River, a drama-prone husky who firmly believes every squirrel is a personal insult, and Archer, a gentle, oversized German shepherd with the emotional intelligence of a marshmallow and the spatial awareness of a refrigerator on wheels. Most days, they guard the porch from butterflies and the wind and beg for crumbs of "human" food.

When not writing, Sheri can be found crafting memorial art in resin, walking ancient pine trails, or talking to fictional gods like they’re real and answering when they talk back.

Her webnovel When the Heavens Turned Away is currently updating, following the success of her novella Ten Days to Unmake a God.

Come for the cosmic heartbreak. Stay for the foxes, fungus, and emotionally damaged immortals.

A broken world. A doomed bond. Not everyone returns.

If you've ever felt homesick for a world you've never known, if you’ve mourned a love that destiny refused, or if you simply believe stories should linger long after the last word, this tale awaits you...

When heaven turned away, all that remained were fallen gods, broken vows, and memories sharp enough to bleed. Four unlikely companions journey through this fractured world: an exile burdened by secrets heavier than stone, a former deity whose smile hides ancient sorrow, a woman whose sword echoes with memories not her own, and a warrior whose bravery cannot heal the wounds he carries.

Bound by fate but driven by grief, they confront cursed artifacts, forgotten temples, and the shadows of their own pasts. Each step pulls them closer together, and closer to truths they might not survive knowing. In the end, what holds them isn’t prophecy or power, but the fragile, unyielding bond of souls who refuse to surrender quietly.

When the Heavens Turned Away is a Xianxia-infused tragedy of love, memory, and stubborn hope in a world abandoned by gods.
